Dillon Francis is a known American EDM artist, DJ and a record producer.
He works combining various genders but his favorite are Moombahcore and Moombahton. He is considered a pioneer of fusion of these two genres. He also does Electro House and Progressive House and even Trap.
He was born on October 5th, 1987 in Los Angeles, California, United States under the name Dillon Hart Francis. He has an American father and his mother is part Croatian part Serbian from Europe.
His father is named Robert Drew Francis and he is an „alternative medicines doctor“. His mother is named Katica and she is his great supporter.
Francis stated that he had a very pure childhood and that his parents tried to keep him isolated from bad influences.
He interested the public when he said that he wasn’t familiar with cursing until he became a teenager. He also watched Sesame Street every day because his parent thought it was a good influence on him and that he will have high moral standards.
He was a student at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. He chose painting and printmaking as his majors.Afte r he graduated from high school, he enrolled the Santa Monica College.
He soon dropped out and he never finished it. Dillon has discovered his love for music and decided to focus on it. He was sute that he would succeed. He did his internship for various photographers.
Francis was noticed for the first time by a known American producer called Diplo. He was the owner of Mad Decent record label.
After some time the two of them started their collaboration and have made a song called „Que Que“ together with Maluca, a known Latin-pop artist.
He got popular when his single called „Masta Blasta“ was edited because he was inspired by a Dutch artist Munchi and the single ended as the moombahton track.
Francis released his first EP called “Swashblucker” in 2010 on Play Me Records. He released two more singles in 2012, called „Bootleg Fireworks (Burning Up)“ and „I.D.G.A.F.O.S.“
Francis also released his work on many other labels like Mad Decent, Dim Mak Records and OWSLA.
Francis was the first moombahton artist to ever get on the number-one place on the Beatport releases chart. He did it with his extended play titled “Something, Something, Awesome”.
He went on his Wet & Reckless tour all around North America in 2012.
He also supported the English electronic-music trio called Nero on their tour called the Welcome Reality tour and a musician Flux Pavilion on the Standing on a Hill tour.
He confirmed that he will be going on a World Tour in United States and Canada and that he will release his debut album in 2013 but it got a bit delayed.
He was also named as one of the MTV Clubland’s Artists of 2013 with artists like Otto Knows and Kill the Noise which gave him a bit more popularity. MTV also labeled him as an „artist to watch“ in late 2013.
He was on the way to become one of the most important artists on the EDM scene.
Francis was performing on many festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra, Coachella, Camp Bisco, TommorrowWorld and Electric Zoo.
Francis and Kill the Noise together are a comedy production duo called Meowski666.
In October 2013 it was announced that he got on the 73. Place on the DJ Mag Top 100 poll.
He released a single with DJ Snake in February 2014 called „Get Low“.
This the biggest hit Dillon has made in his career and the song reached Platinum in the United States.
“Get Low” was used on the soundtrack for “21 Jump Street” and “Furious 7”.
Dillon has let Rae Sremmurd to do the official remix of this single.
In March the same year he posted a tweet announcing his new album called “Money Sucks, Friends Rule” which will be released by Columbia Records and Mad Decent.
Dillon released another single from the album in August and it was a collaboration with Sultan + Ned Shepard with The Chain Gang of 1974.
He went on the Friends Rule Tour in February 2014 to promote his debut album. He went toring across 18 different cities across the United States.
Dillon revealed how he was working on a sketch show pilot for MTV to the Australian radio station called Triple J in January, 2015.
He said that the show will go into production in January 2015. Dillon announced his EP This Mixtape is Fire in June, 2015.
This EP has collaborations with Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Kygo, Bro Safari and Chromeo. There’s also a remix of a song „I Can’t Take It“ from his previous album Money Sucks, Friends Rule. Party Favor made the remix of this single.
The same day he released the first single from the EP called „Bruk Bruk (I Need Your Lovin’)“.
In 2015, he gained a role in the movie titled “We Are Your Friends”, together with Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski.
His first TV appearance was in 2016 in a popular MTV show named “Ridiculousness”.
He released 3 singles in 2016; „Need You“ with NGHTMRE, „Anywhere“ with a singer Will Heard and „Candy“ in collaboration with Snappy Jit and GTA.
He released another single with G-Eazy called „Say Less“ on April 5, 2017.
After that he stated to his fans he will be releasing a new album but as an independent artist. He also said he will be going back to his moombahton style he did in the beginning.
In 2017, Dillon was in “What Would Diplo Do?” as Diplo’s friend named Jasper.
Francis sometimes makes different alter egos and is known for them. One of the most known ones is „Emo Preston“. He performed as „Emo Preston“ at the Emo Nite in L.A. in 2017.
On January 24, 2018 he released his first single from a new album and it was called „Ven“. He made it in collaboration with Quimico Ultra Mega and Arcangel.
In February the same year he released another single called „We The Funk“ with Fuego. He released „Sexo“ in April 2018 with iLe and Residente.
In late spring, Francis released another single called “BaBaBa (Vete Pa’Ya)” with Young Ash. He released „Never Let You Go“ with De La Ghetto at the beginning of the summer 2018.
Francis also made an appearance in the first season of Taskmaster US. He was with Freddie Highmore, Kate Berlant, Lisa Lampanelli and Ron Funches.
His single “Get Low’” was created with DJ Snake, and was used in a commercial for Taco Bell.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines TV has used his hit “Seek Summer” for their promotion.
Francis wasn’t invoved in many controversies. One was connected with Katy Perry when he claimed that she has stolen ideas his music video.
The other one is connected with the single “Get Low” where he was accused for racism.
In 2018, he has released a remix of a single “I am Cardi B” called “I like it”.
He has an older brother with whom he is close. He has a good relationship with his family.
One of his best friends is Diplo, the guy who discovered him as an artist.
Dillon can be rarely seen without some kind of beard and he had tatooed both of his arms and has two small tattoes on his chest.
He tries to eat healthy and he is into cross-fit. He is a big fan of “The Smiths” and has all of their albums.
He is known as a big fan of suits. It probably comes for his young work experience with “J Lindeberg”, a clothing company focused on suits.
When he is asked for his biggest influences and role models he mentions a few people but Calvin Harris, Crookers and Diplo are always amongst them.
At one point he had six different Instagram accounts for various personalities: DJ Rich as F**k, DJ Hanzel, Treva, Rave Dad, Greg and Becky.
He is very active over social media and has over a million followers both on Twitter and on Instagram.
In 2018, his parents Katica and Robert have celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary and he congratulated them on all of his social accounts, posting photos and videos.
