She grew up in Highland Park. Her mother is the famous actress and a musician called Maggie Baird and het father is called Patrick O’Connel. Their roots go back to Ireland and Scotland, but Billie is mostly connected to her American-self and thinks of herself that way.

Billie grew up in a household that loves music so she was always listening to it because there were really no way avoiding it.

Her favorite musicians were the most known bend in the world called The Beatles and a female singer named Avril Lavigne, but she really liked to search for new music on her father’s mixtapes and she says that it was a hobby that she had.

Billie was homeschooled and she decided to become a part of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus when she was only 8 years old. Three years later, she decided to start writing songs because she was influenced by her brother who wrote songs for his band.

In one interview she stated that the first song she ever wrote was named “Fingers crossed” and it was about zombies. She made a lot of lyrics from the dialogues of the series “The Walking Dead”.

His name is Finneas O’Connel and he, just like Billie and her parents, also loves music and performing very much. He had a band and he was doing great, so Billie thought she could maybe become famous one day too. Little did she know that she really will!

In 2015, she recorded Ocean Eyes, which Finneas had written for his band, but once he finished it, he felt like his sister would be much better at doing that.

Her dance teacher decided to make a dance to this song. In 2016, Billie decided to put Ocean Eyes on SoundCloud and it was her debut single. She didn’t know whether it will be well accepted or not, but she decided to continue on with her work.

She never discloses the feelings truly, but she likes to say how she feels. She doesn’t analyze what is happening to her and it feels like she is trying to romanticize the melancholic feeling in her music as well.

Some people think that she is just trying to portray the Gen Z attitude and that she is trying to become more famous by being relatable to young kids, but many believe she should actually get profesisonal help.

Various times she has said “help me” on camera as a joke, but people are starting to think that she actually needs help and that she is struggling with something bad.
